Jewel Beetle Gouache Procreate Tutorial

Hello! Today we'll be working on this Jewel Beetle Gouache Tutorial using my Freya Gouache Sampler Brushes! Before we begin, please download the tutorial files. You'll get five sampler gouache brushes for Procreate, a sketch, color palette swatch file, and a PDF version of the tutorial.

Let's begin! 

Step 1: Start by adding the background texture using Freya Gouache Paper No. 4. Add another layer, sketch the outline using 6b or Peppermint brush. Then on another layer, add your base colors using the Freya Gouache Thick No. 1. I would use a separate layer for the wings so that it'll be easier to add details later.

Step 2: In another layer, add the details using Freya Gouache Thick No. 10 and Freya Gouache Thin No. 10. You can use the clipping mask option to help you keep the details from spilling on the rest of the canvas.

Step 3: Add highlights to the head and body using the Freya Gouache Thick No. 1. Then using the Freya Gouache Thin No. 10, add in the wing details.

Step 4: Try experimenting with different colors to add depth to the wing structure, using the Freya Gouache Thin No. 10. Finally, add a background using Freya Gouache Rolling No. 4.
