Oil Lettering Tutorial for Procreate

Hello! Today we'll be working on a more complex lettering tutorial and we'll add a bit of chromatic aberration to our layers for this look. We'll be using the premium oil brushes from my Freya Artistic Lettering Brush set. You can download the tutorial PDF, swatch file, and template for this project. When you're ready, let's get started!

Step 1: Let's start by creating our lettering composition using the Freya Oil Lettering No. 10 Multicolor Brush. Set your primary and secondary brush colors in the color panel.

Step 2: Next, add another layer as a clipping mask, and using the Freya Oil Lettering 5 Multicolor Brush, paint over the first layer. Then go to Adjustments and pick Chromatic Aberration. Hold the pen down and swipe left to right to tweak the color aberration. Experiment a bit!

Step 3: Once you're happy with the result, change the background layer to black. This will make the colors pop out even more. Then using Freya Oil lettering 12 and Freya watercolor Stamps 21 and 16, embellish around the composition.

Step 4: Now let's add a shadow by duplicating the base lettering layer and adjusting its placement, place it a bit lower. Then from the adjustments tool, choose Gaussian Blur. Adjust the intensity by sliding left until you're happy with how the shadow looks. And finally, add a background texture using Freya Gouache Rolling 4 in a dark grey color. Place this just on top of the Background Layer. Set the texture layer to Linear Burn. You can also go to the Curves option and tweak the curve so that more texture will pop out.
